About Lu Valena

When I was fresh out of college, a life-changing bolt of inspiration compelled me to open a fabulous coffeehouse and gallery. Since I had an art degree and no business education or experience, I hit the books and wrote my first business plan, which (along with the help of a lot of amazing people) allowed me to open the place I had been dreaming of.

The experience of writing that first plan completely changed my perspective. As an artist, I view the creative process as a necessary part of life; it was a relief when I discovered that I didn’t have to silence my artist self in order to pursue a career in business. I learned that building businesses can also feel like a creative act, and that the process of writing a business plan has a kind of magic in it.

Since my years as a coffee shop owner, I have also co-founded and run a tech company and a non-profit art publication. Along the way, I have developed tools and frameworks to help myself make sense of the world of business and build the things I’ve wanted to build. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to do the things that are rooted in their deepest sense of truth, and I have come to love helping other people manifest their own dreams. I have discovered the beauty of good, authentic branding, and have built many websites based on those principles.
